
The 2010 National Barbie® Doll Collectors Convention will shine the spotlight on a competition room represented by conventioneers from every corner of the globe. Knock out the audience with rarities from your vintage and Mod collections. Dance to the beat of your own tune by showing your creative talents in doll artistry, dioramas, and photography. The Competition Hall of Fame will showcase and display the largest collection of conventioneer treasures!
Bring your entries to convention and check the schedule to determine where and when competition set-up will be. Once entries are placed and judged, convention attendees will be admitted to the competition room to view them and take photographs. At the end of competition, you will return to the competition room to collect your entries.
There will be security guards on duty throughout the duration of competition, so you need not worry about their safety.
We welcome your assistance as a runner, judge, or apprentice judge in the competition room whether you enter competition or not.

B. Duo (backdrop permitted. No larger than 16” tall x 10” deep and 10” wide):

C. Diorama (No larger than 24” wide x 24” deep. No height restriction):
- Concert or Video - Barbie®, Ken®, family and/or friends visit or participate in a music video or concert.
- The British Invasion - British pop and rock bands such as Herman’s Hermits, The Zombies, The Animals, The Kinks, The
Beatles, Dave Clark Five, etc.
- Fan Encounter - Barbie® and friends meet or want to meet their musical idols (any period in music history).
- Garage Band - Your interpretation of Barbie® and friends creating their own garage band.
- Musical Theatre - Kelly®, Tommy® and their Lil’ friends star in a stage or movie musical.
- Ohio Landmarks and Destinations - Barbie®, Ken®, family and/or friends visit an Ohio landmark/destination such as the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Ohio State University, the Cincinnati Zoo, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Home of the Goodyear
Blimp, Jungle Jim’s, Tony Packo’s Cafe, etc.

filmed on location or taking place in Ohio (examples include A Christmas Story, The Drew Carey Show, WKRP in

- Movie Music - Barbie®, Ken®, family and/or friends portray scene from a movie scene which featured musical
entertainment (examples include The Wizard of Oz™, Grease®, Singing in the Rain, Yentl, High School Musical, The
Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Jailhouse Rock™, South Pacific, Saturday Night Fever, A Chorus Line, etc.)
- Cartoons and Comics - Barbie®, Ken®, family and or friends in a scene of your favorite comic strip pane or cartoon.
D. Photography (No plate glass is permitted. However, Plexiglas or safety glass is acceptable):
- 1960’s Flower Child - Framed 8” x 10” image (single 8” x 10” image only, no collage) - need not be professionally framed. Must have appropriate easel or support to stand upright on table display.
- 1980’s New Wave Enthusiast- Framed 8” x 10” image (single 8” x 10” image only, no collage) - need not be professionally framed. Must have appropriate easel or support to stand upright on table display.
E. Paper dolls:
- Barbie ® as a Rock Star! One panel (no larger than 11” x 17”) with four outfits that represent Barbie® doll’s wardrobe in the Rock era of your choice - need not be professionally framed. Must have appropriate easel or support to stand upright on table display.

- All items require pre-registration by mail. The early entry deadline is May 4, 2010. The late entry deadline is June 30, 2010. No last minute or day of competition entries will be accepted. The early entry fee is $7.00 per item for competition forms postmarked by May 4, 2010. The late entry fee is $10.00 per item for entries postmarked May 5, 2010 through June 30, 2010.
- Conventioneers may enter as many categories as they wish with a limit of one entry per category.
- Individuals, groups, or clubs may enter diorama categories. Please note only one ribbon/prize will be awarded per entry, not for each member of the group.
- Single dolls (creative) will not include a backdrop. The accessories/props the doll is holding are the only exceptions.
- Creative entries must be entirely the work of the conventioneer(s) who enters them with the exception of props used in dioramas and displays. Dolls used in the creative categories must be originally manufactured by Mattel.
- Creative entries will be judged on originality, creativity, and expression of the theme.
- Backdrops (duos/creative) should not exceed 16” tall by 10” wide. Backdrop entries may include no other accessories and props with the exception of what the doll is holding / wearing.
- All individual vintage dolls must have sturdy stands and may not have extraneous accessories, unless the doll/outfit was originally accompanied by said accessory.
- Vintage categories will be judged on authenticity, rarity, condition and completeness.
- Dioramas should not exceed 24” wide and 24” deep, with no height restriction.
- All dolls, accessories, and props must be entered and removed by the pre-registered entrants only to ensure security. Signatures will be required for drop offs
and pick ups.
- Placement of entries is solely at the discretion of the competition room chair and
her committee members. We request that entrants ensure that dolls/accessories are appropriately secured and positioned. Placement is done by entrants and entries will not be moved once the entries are placed.
- The convention committee reserves the right to photograph and publish photographs of the competition area and entries.
- The competition committee reserves the right to cancel any category not receiving at least two entries. In case of cancellation, the fee will be refunded. If entrant cancels or withdraws an entry, there will be no refund.
- Awarding of ribbons and prizes is at the discretion of the judges. The convention committee reserves the right to refuse entries that are distasteful and not in the spirit of creative competition.
