The Sites and Sounds of Houston
Memorial Park - Houston's premier urban park. The park's 2.88 mile jogging trail is very popular with runners and walkers year-round. The park also has miles of mountain bike trails, several tennis courts, and other options for outdoor recreation. Free.
Hermann Park - Approximately 455 acres (about half the size of Central Park in New York City). This park is accessible via the MetroRail and encompasses the Miller Outdoor Theater, the Houston Zoo, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and the Hermann Park Golf Course.
Houston Astros - The city's Major League Baseball team, playing at Minute Maid Park in downtown, moved to the American League in 2013 after a half-century in the National League.
Houston Texans - Houston's National Football League (NFL) team plays at NRG Stadium in the South Loop area, next to the now-vacant Astrodome.
Houston Rockets - The city's National Basketball Association (NBA) team plays downtown at the Toyota Center.
Houston Dynamo - Houston's Major League Soccer team opened BBVA Compass Stadium in May 2012; it is the first major soccer-specific stadium in the US in a downtown area.
Houston Dash - Women's soccer came to Houston in April 2014 with the Dash, the newest member of the National Women's Soccer League. The team also play at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Theater and Performance Arts
The lively performing arts culture of Houston includes professional, community and university-based dance, opera, Broadway musical, chamber and symphonic music groups, featuring both classical and pops programming. Theater is active in Houston and includes the Tony Award-winning Alley Theatre - http://downtownhouston.org/district/theater/.
The major downtown performing arts venues include The Wortham Center, The Hobby Center, Jones Hall and The Alley Theatre.
Houston has a number of museums to satisfy the varied interests of our Conventioneers. Museums include:

Just Outside Houston:
Galveston— Only about an hour drive southeast from the city, Houstonians go to Galveston Island for its beaches, the Strand, Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston, and Moody Gardens.
Kemah— A nice boardwalk with great restaurants and amusement rides that is south of Houston and on the way to Galveston Island. Located near the Space Center.
Blue Bell Creameries—See the Texas countryside in Brenham and tour the creamery. About one hour (75 mi) North West of Houston along US 290.
